Kromme Vallei

Henk Laing’s farm, Kromme Vallei, is situated on a stretch of land between Lamberts Bay and Clanwilliam, on the Skurfberg Mountain overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Laing has a deep understanding of this land, the vines, the weather, the animals and fynbos, having walked these soils during harvest with his father, decades ago.

Climate

Hot and dry summers follow a mild winter with very low rainfall. Day temperatures during summers can easily rise above 35°C, but the proximity to the ocean and the high altitude ensures cool nights which contributes greatly to the quality of the wines.

Aspect

Vineyards are planted between 444m and 534m above sea level on north-westerly slopes.

Soils

Bleached topsoil on deep weathered, yellow to red coloured apedal soils of predominantly fine to medium sand fractions. These soils are well-drained without severe restrictions.

Varietals

Groendruif (Semillon).
